It's been a great day!
I drove escort to Dixfield this morning. Nice folks, easy job.
We had a yummy lunch! Worte Sticks. *giggle*
And *major happy dance!* Tom and I got the perimeter fence all checked and working! The hop over the hill doesn't work so I'll have to look at that tomorrow.
The boys and I laid out and watched for shooting stars. We saw some and just before we came in we all saw a really big long one! It went across half our field of vision. :D
I found a very, very, very old cookbook, in pdf online. It's from the 15th century written in Middle English. I've been having a BLAST figuring it out. Once you get the hang of it it's not at all hard! I've only read a few of the recipes. They sound good so far. Here's a very easy one in the section, Potage Dyvers.
"Caboges. Take fayre caboges, an cutte hem, an pike hem clene and clene washe hem, an parboyle hem in fayre water, an þanne presse hem on a fayre bord ; an þan choppe hem, and caste hem in a faire pot with goode freysshe broth, an wyth mery-bonys, and let it boyle : þanne grate fayre brede and caste þer-to, an caste þer-to Safron an salt ; or ellys take gode grwel y-mad of freys flesshe, y-draw þorw a straynowr, and caste þer-to. An whan þou seruyst yt inne, knocke owt þe marw of þe bonys, an ley þe marwe .ij. gobettys or .iij. in a dysshe, as þe semyth best, & serue forth."
Take fair cabbage, and cut them, and pick them clean and clean wash them and parboil them in fair water.
That's the first bit. :) By fair I think they mean clean. The this dohicky, þ , says th. So þan = than. It's very much like the Latin capital letter thorn. You can type it on your keyboard, hold Alt while typing 0222 and let off the 2 and Alt at the same time, so Þ!
I just bumped into another new letter. I haven't figured it out yet. It looks like a cursive z.
Finding the old cookery book was the result of hunting up the oldest wassail recipe I could find. I found several I want to try. :)
*yawn* It's past time for bed now.
Oh wait! The other wonderful thing! My dear daddy helped me solve a printing dilemma. Did you know you can't print only odd or only even pages from your web browser? Well, you can't. I only have about 100 pages of a website to print and I need them double sided. There was NO WAY I was doing it one page at a time. But I googled and googled and couldn't find any help. My genius brothers didn't know what to do. It took the daddy genius to solve the problem. And so simply! I "print" to a PDF first! Then I am able to print double sided to a real printer. I'd never heard of doing such a thing. But it' working beauuuutifuly! It even saves the little bit of tweaking I have to do in the print preview mode.
Oh, it's been a good day!
